Life’s Little Victories

 

 

I thought I would take a break from talking about the open this week to share my admiration for a fellow crossfitter who continues to break down any wall in front of her with what I can only call pure determination.

 

This week I was lucky enough to witness Nicole’s very first muscle up …… then her second ….. and then her third as we finally got it on tape :). Now if any of you have been living under a rock or have had your head between your legs for the past however many weeks/months you may not have noticed the girl in the corner tirelessly doing ring dip after ring dip and you may have even walked around someone in the middle of the box continuously trying to get their chest through rings timing down perfect.  This was Nicole and I can tell you, what she did is not something to be taken lightly. What Nicole did was show everyone that with practice and the right mindset any goal can be achieved. Some might just longer than others.

 

I believe that when people walk into the box and are naturally good at things something very important is lost to them. Do not get me wrong I understand that some people are just going to better at some things and not so great at others. However when you have to work at something as tirelessly as Nicole did you feel something very different than if she was just naturally able to do it.

 

Speaking from my own experience I remember when I got my first muscle up. The very first time I ever touched a ring was at a crossfit box so I can tell you it took me quite some time. Finally when I did get it I do remember what it felt like. You feel like the strongest person in the world at least for a moment. For sometime you may have even thought you would never achieve this goal of yours, but when you do it is just that much sweeter. Eventually you have to come down off the rings and then you realize an entirely new set of goals has been laid out for you. “If I can get one why not two, and then three”, these thoughts will begin to creep into your mind. You will dream about muscle ups. If you think that is funny just ask around to anyone who has been doing this for a while, it happens.

 

Nicole is a great example of what a crossfitter should be. She has literally left blood, sweat, and tears at ARX. I do not want to ever hear someone say that they will never be able to do something because you have no idea what you are capable of. There are dozens of people chomping at the bits to help anyone with skill work because they are not just helping you they are helping themselves as well. Once again congratulations are due to Nicole for her very first, second, and third muscle up. Keep up the hard work everyone the open is almost done. We are not as strong as we where when we started the open. We are stronger!!!
